Allow me to interjekt favourites Say Lou Lou are back with another stunning music video.
We’re definitely not the only ones stanning over these girls- they’ve made the BBC Sound of 2014 poll. Looking at who made the 2013 longlist I think it’s fair to say that Say Lou Lou have an exciting year ahead of them.
We wrote about LIZ’s retro music video for U Over Them a few months ago (yes because the early 00’s are now retro. We’re getting old, people).
Stop Me Cold, available as a free download in exchange for a Like on facebook, sounds like something that Christina Aguilera would be releasing if she was in touch with what was going on in music these days (Let’s be honest, her Lotus never blossomed…).
The first ten seconds open with a guitar riff that would easily be mistaken for a track off of The Diary of Alicia Keys before breaking out all the turn-of-the-century R’n’B stops. In spite of its uptempo swagger, it’s hard not to imagine this song working just as well if it was stripped down to LIZ’s vocals and an acoustic guitar. Until we hear that acoustic session, the original track will do just fine.
And be sure to read on to get this sick remix of U Over Them…
If you like the sounds of Claire Maguire‘s vocals but felt she needed more of an electronic edge, KALEIDA are here to save the day.
They’re also generously offering this track for free via Soundcloud
Icona Pop rock the Jean-Luc Goddard vibe in this black and white tale of two friends caught up in a love triangle.
It’s so funny hearing this in high quality audio years later and realizing that the lyrics really are “Remember me, I’m the one who had your babies”.
A handy link to all the tracks in this week’s Wemix Wednesday is available here.
Haim – Forever (Giorgio Moroder Remix)
I gotta admit that other than the Giorgio Moroder trademark vocoder bit, this reminds me quite a bit of The Knocks remix of the same track that we featured back in Wemix Wednesday #13. Maybe with a lil less hands-in-the-air o’clock action.
Giorgio Moroder – The Chase (Daft Punk Around The World Remix)
The fact that Giorgio Moroder’s track is from 1978 still gets me.
Arcade Fire – We Exist (Night Drive Edit)
Mario – Let Me Love You (Equator Club Remix)
Foxes – Youth (Lovelife Remix)
Don’t you love it when two bands you love either:
– write together
– have one produce for the other
– create a remix of the other’s content?
Well the last one has happened here and, as we’ve seen many times, Lovelife succeed once again.
MSMR – Think Of You (HAERTS Remix)
That thing we described above? It happened twice this week. Bow down.
Gorgon City – Ready For Your Love (MNEK Refix)
Will you go make a baby already?
The Hood Internet – The Complete Latch (Disclosure x Sam Smith x Blood Orange)
Kinda cheating by serving up a mashup on Wemix Wednesday instead of Mashup Monday but it’s totally worth it and you’ll thank me for it.
